Mooney Law Obtains Six Figure Settlement for Injured Worker Who Contracted COVID-19

I was recently able to settle a workers' compensation claim for a client of mine who contracted COVID-19 while in the course and scope of her duties at work.  The settlement was over $100,000. These COVID-19 cases are pretty limited.  These cases are limited to essential workers, primarily health care workers.  There is a presumption for health care workers that the COVID-19 infection was contracted at work.  That presumption has to be rebutted by the Employer, who then must prove…

Are Pennsylvania workers’ compensation benefits taxable?

Pennsylvania injured workers may receive wage loss benefits when out of work due to a work injury. Many workers’ compensation cases also end in a settlement, where the injured worker receives a lump sum amount to settle their claim. This is the time of year where I get questions from clients on whether their weekly wage loss checks and their settlement funds are considered taxable income. The answer is NO. Workers’ compensation benefits are not taxable at the federal or…

The huge warehouse being built off Exit 24 of Interstate 81 in Shippensburg looks to be nearing completion.  The warehouse is reportedly a Walmart Distribution Center.  As you can see by the image below, it is nearing completion. Besides more truck traffic on the Olde Scotland Road and Shippensburg in general, a new large warehouse bring more employees.  Hopefully, proper training and safe practice prevail at this new location.
