OSHA’s Biggest Fines of 2019 are common workplace hazards

February 14, 2020

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) has released a list of it’s ten largest fines it issued 2019.

Last year, nine of the most expensive OSHA citations included some kind of fall protection violation, whether the company in question primarily performed roofing or mixed asphalt. The tenth mostly dealt with excavation and trenching violations.

Unfortunately, when cutting corners to boost the bottom line, some companies never consider employee safety.  These type of violations, such as inadequate railings on scaffolding, inadequate scaffolding construction, failure to inspect scaffolding and other climbing mechanisms, and failure to provide adequate safety gear are all too common in the workplace.

Employers fail to think of the devastating consequences of taking the ‘short cut’ route to save money.  Many of these devastating injuries, at worst cause work related deaths or work-related paralysis, can easily be avoidable.  But, for the injured worker, they often have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives.

These types of incidences are certainly not limited to construction type activities.  Unfortunately, we have represented some clients with  devastating injuries due to faulty equipment, failure to inspect equipment, failure to replace malfunctioning equipment, lack of safeguards on machines, and lack of adequate training on machinery.   I wish I was able to say these type of injuries are rare, but unfortunately, they are not.

At Mooney Law, we can shine light on these type of issues by publishing articles like this and spreading the work on worker safety.  However, we can’t prevent these types o f injuries.  The one thing we can do is FIGHT FOR YOU.  Mooney Law is experienced, proven, and trusted by injured workers throughout Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.  We have recovered tens of millions of dollars on behalf on injured workers.  If you have been hurt on the job — fight back.  Call Mooney Law today for an absolutely FREE CONSULTATION at any one of our 14 offices through Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.  Call today at 833-MOONEYLAW or 717-200-HELP.
