Slip and Falls at Work in Pennsylvania

Winter weather leads to many slip and falls, including slips and falls at work. Whether you are walking from your employer’s parking lot, or walking between buildings, or slipping while unloading trucks, snow, sleet, and freezing rain lead to accidents at work. We see it all the time.

If you sustain a slip and fall at work, you have a right under the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act to pursue workers’ compensation benefits. Those benefits include wage loss benefits while you are out of work and medical benefits for medical treatment. Slips and falls can lead to significant injuries. Some of these injuries are minor and you recover quickly, others can be more serious and lead to extensive time out of work and ongoing medical treatment. Don’t let your employer or boss tell you it was your fault so you are on your own. That simply is not true.\

So what do you do when your slip and fall at work in Pennsylvania?

First, report the injury to your employer. Notice of injury is critical and has timelines. Explain what happened and what body parts you injured. Easy way to handle this is to report it immediately and ask to complete an incident report.

Second, seek medical care right away. Be sure to tell the doctor how the injury occurred and explain all body parts that were injured, not just the one that hurts the most at the time. If you have intense low back pain and a little bit of knee pain, tell the doctor about both. Your back may hurt the most, but the knee could end up being the worst after time passes. Report all symptoms to your doctor.

Third, make sure you get a work note form your doctor. Out of work and restrictions notes are critical to your entitlement to wage loss benefits.

Fourth, you should create a note on your phone or pick up a pen and paper. Write down what happened. Write down your symptoms. Write down where you treated. This will help keep you organized and help your memory down the road.
